Little Heartbeats. A Big Heart. Transformation of the courtyard of the Virgen de Loreto School in Astor

At elanta

we believe that the union of many small beats of solidarity can make a difference in other people’s lives. That is why, together with the Todo Ayuda Foundation and the iHelp platform, we set ourselves the challenge of raising 15,000 heartbeats of generosity through a crowdfunding campaign to make the renovation of the playground of the Virgen de Loreto Astor School, a special education centre in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, a reality.

The Special Education Centre ‘Virgen de Loreto’ of Astor, has a long history since its creation in 1977, committed to offering an inclusive, personalized, comprehensive and quality education to its students, so that they can reach the maximum development of their abilities, hand in hand and in coordination with their families.

The new playground has fully adapted facilities: the ground has been levelled to facilitate access, swings and games designed specifically for pupils with disabilities have been incorporated, and a pergola has been built to guarantee protection from inclement weather. In addition, the drainage system has been improved, ensuring that every corner of the playground is safe and functional.

The importance of this renovation goes beyond the physical aspect. For the students of Astor School, the playground is not only a space for play, but a place to develop social skills, strengthen their autonomy and explore new ways of communicating and sharing with their peers. As the school team emphasizes, the playground is an extension of the classroom, an environment where children not only have fun, but also learn to live together and overcome barriers.

The presentation of the new playground was attended by the Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, the Councilor for Welfare and Education, Rubén Martínez, Andrea Liboreiro, CEO of elanta, Elena Barquín, head of ESG at elanta, as well as representatives of the Todo Ayuda Foundation, the ihelp platform and IES Victoria Kent. They were joined by the president of Astor, Mari Carmen Villena and other members of the Astor management team and parents of students.
